Program Safety Guidelines - Biking
General Information
Each member is responsible for their own safety at all times while engaging in activities related to biking.
Participants should have the basic skills necessary for riding a bicycle. TSM will provide a ride leader and sweep for each ride.
Each member reviews and signs a waiver including emergency contact information for that day.
Equipment
Each participant should be familiar with their bicycle and provide
A bicycle in working order – hybrid, road, e-bike, etc. (tires pumped, etc)
A bicycle helmet
Athletic shoes appropriate for biking
Hydration, nutrition, sun/weather protection for the outing
Bring your personal health care items such as an epi pen and inhaler.
Let the leader know if you have any pertinent health concerns.
Safety Rules
Be prepared to follow the same rules and responsibilities as drivers:
Ride in a straight line, single file, in the same direction as traffic.
Obey all traffic signs and signals.
Stop and look left-right-left for traffic before entering a street.
Know the hand and voice signals for biking. These signals will be reviewed at the beginning of each ride.
For more info on road safety, refer to the Wisconsin DOT website.

Be informed about the route proposed for the outing. When possible, review the ride route and assess your readiness and ability for the route distance and terrain. Route distances and options will be described in activity descriptions.
